As they say at McDonald’s, you deserve a break today–and now you’ve
got one, thanks to the recent sharp drop in oil prices. I won’t try to
tell you that lower fuel costs, alone, will cure the turmoil in world financial
markets. They won’t. But oil’s spill carries major implications for investors.
What are they? Who stands to benefit the most? Should you sell your oil
stocks right now–or buy more?
In this month’s visit, I’ll give you my straight-from-the-shoulder answers
to these crucial questions. Hint: While the drop in energy prices will
undoubtedly help put the U.S. and other economies back on a stronger
growth track, we aren’t going to be pumping $2 gasoline again anytime
soon. Lay your investment plans accordingly!

Many income investments are already celebrating the Fed’s decision to pause. (Several of our utility stocks lately have bounced up to 52-week
highs.) However, I’m still uncovering juicy yields in some out-of-the-way places. I have compiled a menu of income plays that will deliver you
a generous cash payout of up to 7% annually, with ample scope for capital gains, too.

I’ve already given you fair warning in our February issue: Energy prices may be headed for another spike when the summer driving season kicks in (after Memorial Day). Whether it’s a huge leap or just an ordinary seasonal blip, though, you’ll be wise to build up your stake in oil-and-gas stocks over the next month or two.
In this month’s visit, I’ll show you how to safeguard your wealth during this tricky period of increasingly tight money, while positioning yourself for the wave of prosperity I expect once the Bernanke Fed reverses course and starts lowering interest rates (probably in late 2006 or early 2007). Bonds and cash are part of the plan, for sure. However, I’ve also pinpointed two stocks for you with the best potential to score double-digit gains this year, regardless of how long it takes the Fed to do an about-face.

Might as well get used to it, because this is the pattern we’re likely to see repeated several more times over the next six to 12 months. Stocks slid today as investor anxiety mounted over the latest Bush administration miscue (the hastily quashed Miers nomination).

This stock market is trying to imitate the “cat with nine lives.” Even the shocking devastation of Hurricane Katrina, coupled with $3 gasoline, has been unable to kill it (so far). At some point, though—maybe soon—the market’s lucky streak will end. Have you got a strategy to help keep your wealth growing when the inevitable “correction” sets in? We do. In this month’s visit, I want to outline it again for you, with some tweaks to meet today’s unique challenges. Hint: The key is to make sure you’re earning a plump, steady income. Call it the “bird in hand” strategy!
